Reptiles are cold-blooded animals... seeking warmth where they can find it, like the middle of the road. This '04 photo of a rattlesnake was taken on Del Puerto Canyon Rd, heading west from Patterson CA. Besides being a unique photo op, I may have prolonged its life as it retreated off the road from my close (but safe) proximity.
