| Freddy is explaining the selling practices of the lady's table. He is holding a bag of ground-up coca leaves (whole coca leaves are hanging in a green bag next to his head)... one for tea, one for chewing. The point was made that the coca leaf is an integal part of rural Peru, helping farmers cope with the high elevation... has been for centuries. Freddy emphasized that coca, for most rural Peruvians, is not grown to produce cocaine. An ongoing controversy given the fact that Peru produces more cocaine than any other country. |
