| The Silversword (Aninahina) grows on the slopes of Haleakala and nowhere else in the world. It is believed to have evolved from a California tarweed whiched arrived here millions of years ago, perhaps hitchhiking on a bird. The Aninahina today is an endangered species. Trampling and uprooting, as well as climate change, are serious threats to the plant. |
