Ah, a lobster trap. Bricks on either side hold the trap on sea floor. Hard to discern in this photograph, but the lobster ambles into netting through an opening right front or left side and... gets caught, I guess. Anyway, did some research on what's also called the "lobster pot"... (diagram - video)
