Day 3: July 10, 2011

From the time he was 1-year old, this 34-room "cottage" was the summer home of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. His parents, James and Sara, had purchased some land on Campobello Island, a popular vacation destination for the wealthy. Having started his own family, Franklin continued coming to the cottage. In 1921, he was stricken with polio at the age of 39, while he was starting a political career that would culminate in a Presidency during a pivotal time in U.S. history. FDR would only visit the cottage briefly in 1933, 1936, and 1939.
