Once we had crossed the border and picked up Daniel, our Macedonian guide, it was a short ride into the picturesque city of Ohrid on the shores of Lake Ohrid that straddles the mountainous border between southwestern Macedonia and eastern Albania. It is one of Europe's deepest and oldest lakes.
