A silver seal, which dates from 1593 AD, is probably Iceland's first seal. It is inscribed in Latin, Sigillum insulae islandiae (seal of the island of Iceland). Royal officials in Iceland received such seals for use on their official correspondence with the government in Copenhagen. <<<
