The Hilton in Reykjavik serves an excellent breakfast buffet. Everything for everybody with varying breakfast routines, including granola for me. With a few hours to kill before hooking up with the rest of our tour group later that morning, Peggy and I went for walk… people going to work, children walking and riding their bikes to school, well-maintained and colorful flower beds throughout a local park, and a walk through upscale neighborhoods with expensive cars and trimmed landscaping. The first part of our tour itinerary for the day was a ride on a yellow city bus to downtown Reykjavik… where Gulli pointed out city highlights like the Hallgrimskirkja Cathedral… completed in 1986 which took 41 years to build, the Parliament Building… built in 1881, and Sculptor Emar Jonsson's garden sculptures. After lunch on our own, half of our group took the bus back to the hotel. Peggy and I, Susan and Henry, Steve and Helene, and Angie walked back. On the way, we visited the 5-story Harpa Concert Hall with glass, honeycombed window sides… then walked along the waterfront and took in the sights on our way back to the hotel.
