The Waipi'o Valley as seen from the lookout at the end of Highway 240. As quoted in the guide book, "The Waipi'o Valley is the largest of seven amphitheater valleys on the windward side of the Kohala Mountains. It's an emerals patchwork of forest, lotus and loi'i (taro patches) six miles deep, where waterfalls plung earthward from 2,000 ft. vertical pali (cliffs). Few sites in Hawaii rival sacred Waipi'o for dramatic beauty."
