Before reaching South Point, there's a fork in the road that leads you the trailhead to Green Sands Beach 2.5 miles away. We didn't do the hike (very windy), but did drive next to some abandoned foundations with graffitti on them. Not sure of the significance of the one on the right, but the one on the left refers to the last monarch of Hawaii, Lili'uokalani. Long story short, she felt her mission was to preserve the islands for their native residents. In 1898, Hawaii was annexed to the United States and Queen Liliuokalani was forced to give up her throne.
