Regarding breakfasts at the bed and breakfasts. I've said it before, they're hearty. Big portions. This morning I had a bowl of fruit, two eggs over easy, three pieces of granary toast with strawberry jam, and not strips of fatty bacon, but two hunks of thick bacon with little fat. Oh, and a couple of cups of French-pressed coffee. Hearty.

Then it was off to explore a couple of castles. Caernarfon Castle was built between 1283 and 1330 under King Edward I. It was sacked in 1294 by Madog ap Llywelyn and recaptured the following year. Dolwyddelan Castle was built in the 13th century by Llywelyn the Great, Prince of Gwynedd and North Wales. It was used as a guard post until Edward I of England captured the castle in 1283 and used it as an English garrison.

How are you doing with the Welsh names? Here's another one that's a bit easier to say phonetically: Porthmadog. It's a city on the coast considered to be the gateway to Snowdonia National Park. For us it was a lunch and laundrette (laundromat) stop before heading back to Betws-y-Coed.
