| "Benkei in the Boat", 1899 by Toshihide Migita. The story: Taira no Tomomori, a commander of the recently defeated Taira Clan, appears to his rival Minamoto Yoshitsune and his followers as they attempt to cross a river. He has come to avenge his family's defeat and attempts to drown Yoshitsune. The warrrior Benkei finally pacifies Tomomori's spirit and save the group through the use of his rosary and by chanting Buddhist scriptures. |
