On the left is a nautilus shell carved by Dutch artist Johannes Belkien in the late 1600s. On the right is the Broken Hill skull, Homo Heidelbergensis, discovered in Africa in 1921. The skull belonged to an adult male and may be 200,000 to 300,000 years old. It is still the finest known example of its kind and continues to reveal exciting new insights about human evolution.
