The Cast Courts. On the left is a cast of the Trajan's Column in Rome, Italy. The original in marble was erected AD 113. This is just the lower half of the column of about 20-25ft tall and 4-5ft diameter. The Victoria and Albert's collection of casts is one of the most important in the world. The original purpose of the Cast Courts was educational, at a time when it was not easy to travel to see original works. It is currently being refurbished to its original design, including the original decorated walls and floor.
