Okay, now there's a story here. See the gate on the right? There's also a gate opposite and both have locks. The first time we encountered the unseen gate, we thought it was locked. So we followed along at street level below the walls, but could still see people walking above. Hmm.. we went back thinking their was another staircase to the wall. Wasn't there. We walked through town and found the next access tower to the wall and backtracked... and confronted the gate above. It appeared to be locked as well... but realized it wasn't locking the gate so as not to be opened. Then I saw it... a sign on the gate that said "push". Sure enough, I was able to get to the other gate that also had a "push" sign on it. That's right... we saw the lock and assumed the gate was locked without closer scrutiny telling us that the lock was not locking anything... Been chuckling about it ever since.
