20 pence to pee… wait, let me qualify this expenditure. We woke up to a wonderful breakfast offered at the Rowantree Cottage B & B, as well as having a conversation with two woman from Australia on holiday. When paying the bill for our stay, we learned that the inn did not take cards and wanted cash only. The bill was 59 pounds. I had twenty British pounds and 5 Scottish pounds. We needed a cash machine. Of the two available in Arrochar, one was out of order and the other was out of money. The trusting innkeeper suggested Inverary, a town 21 miles in the opposite direction from the way we intended to travel to find a cash machine. So away we dashed… at least as much as you can dash on narrow 2-lane roads. Anyway..

We found a capable cash machine and… a toilet before heading back to pay our bill. 20 pence. That's what we each had to pay to cross the turnstile to pee. Anyway..

The rest of the drive (in the correct direction) was cool. We ascended over a pass into the Glencoe ('glen' means 'valley') of the Highlands region of Scotland ('highlands' being everywhere north of Loch Lomond). Mountains that swept abruptly up on both sides, not too many trees, narrow roads of course, and lots of pull-off parking spots to take pics or hike a trail.

After descending down from the pass, we turned north along Loch Leven to the town of Kinlochleven and dropped off our bags at the Edencoille B & B, looked for public footpaths and went for a hike. Later we had drinks and dinner at a local bar/cafe and had another engaging conversation with a well-traveled family from Canada: a father with his two 20-ish daughters and his father. A good day.
