After a hearty omelet at the Rokeby in Salisbury, we spent the good part of the day driving down the A36, A303, M5, and A30 highways… I mean "dual carriageways" to the coastal town of Penzance on the southwest corner of the British Isle. It is a favorite location for locals to drive to a warmer climate for vacation… I mean, "holiday". Lots of shops and eateries line the strip of sandy beaches and harbors. We had reservations at the Warwick St. Mary's B & B on Alexandra Street… which we had trouble finding because of England's lack of street signs in the first two cities we've stayed overnight. As we had done in Salisbury, we pulled over and Peggy hopped out of the car, popped into a local establishment, and managed to get directions.

We parked our car at the B & B, dropped off our bags and headed out on foot to Saint Michael's Mount, a tidal island about 4 1/2 miles away. "Tidal" meaning if you want to walk on a causeway of granite cobbles to the island, it has to be during low tide. Otherwise, you take a boat. The island consists of buildings along the water's edge that began as a monastery in the 12th century. The castle-looking monastery on top had its beginnings about the 11th century after the Norman invasion of England. It was the castle we wanted to visit, but we had arrived after the last allowable time. So we ambled back along the water's edge to Penzance, and stopped at the first pub we saw, the Yacht Inn, to rest our feet. We then had dinner at an Italian-themed restaurant before going back to the B & B to call it a day.
