As I said, cramped accommodations… like sardines in a can. Not comfortable and nothing really to see out my window seat along the way, being night time. Peggy had made reservations with a United 777 passenger aircraft with two aisles separating a row of seats up a middle aisle and rows of seats along the fuselage on both sides, the outside of which had a window seat. Although technically photography is not allowed, I do manage to sneak a few.

Upon disembarking at Heathrow, we went through customs and assured them of our vacation intentions. We then went in search of our rental car, a small Fiat 500 with a manual transmission… problematical enough if you've been driving an automatic for a while. But here's the thing, people in Great Britain drive on the left side of the road and the cars they drive are built to accommodate this… not only is the steering wheel on the opposite side, but the gear shift as well. Fortunately, the clutch, brake, and accelerator are the same. Nevertheless, this first day of driving a left-handed car with a manual transmission through many roundabout intersections in a clockwise direction through narrow city streets and looking for highway exits that go left instead of right. and…

"Sorry, local people, if I'm a little slow and erratic out there driving about, but I'll get the hang of it."

After much stress for the both of us, we did manage to find the Rokeby B&B in Salisbury and settle into our room. Then we donned our umbrellas and walked into town for local brew, wine, and food...
