Big Bend National Park to South Llano River State Park: 344 miles

Enough of the all-consuming heat of Big Bend. The original plan was to north to Highway 90, and then east along along more of the Rio Grande River. Instead we headed north on Highway 385 out of Big Bend NP to Fort Stockton and turned east for over 200 miles, persevering the tedious (but fast) Interstate 10 (80 mph speed limit) to South Llano River State Park near Junction, Texas.

But let's go back to Big Bend where I had an interesting experience...

Just north of Rio Grande Village is the Boquillas Canyon Overlook... to get a good shot of the Rio Grande River. This part of the river is not wide and majestic as I had envisioned, but narrow and muddy. While Peggy and Layla waited in the FED, I grabbed my camera and loped up the trail to get closer to the Rio Grande. As I rounded a bend in the trail and could see more of the river, I noticed two men on a crude bench under a makeshift covering and another man on a horse. The pictures tell the rest of the story...

What else did we see on the way out of Big Bend National Park?

Other sights before the Interstate...
