~The 'Drive' Back~
July 21-22, 2005

My father was a pilot in the Air Force. I was born in an Air Force hospital and remained an Air Force child until my father retired when I was 17. Being a military family, we moved a lot. Consequently, I went to 13 different schools from 1st to 12th grades. From midway of my 2nd grade year through mid-6th grade, we were stationed at the Air Force base in Plattsburgh, New York. It was my father's intention that we live in town, and my mother's intention that I attend Catholic schools... when possible.
I had not been there since. So we drove through Vermont to catch a ferry across Lake Champlain in the northern tip of New York, to visit one of my boyhood homes.
