Six days into our stay, I was finally able to see the White House at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. It was first built between 1792 and 1800. In 1814, the British burned most of it down during the War of 1812. Reconstruction began immediately. Additions and remodels of the White House have continued in one form or another ever since. The White House is made up of six stories—the Ground Floor, State Floor, Second Floor, and Third Floor, as well as a two-story basement.
