Peringuey's Adder. This photo was taken by Solvin Zankl of Germany in the Namib Desert in Namibia.

A venomous viper found in the sand dunes of the Namib Desert in southwest Africa. Its side-winding method of locomotion, which leaves characteristic hook-shaped markings, seems to be an adaptation for moving on smooth surfaces or loose sand.
