Explore Buenos Aires - home-hosted dinner |

Veronica, our local tour guide, directed our tour on foot and in a shuttle bus in and around downtown Buenos Aires. As we passed the local futbol (soccer) stadium, Veronica told us of the passion Argentinians have for the game. Near the stadium, we had time to walk around the Caminito Street Museum in La Boca… art, statuary, souvenir booths, cafes, tango performers, lots of people and color. We were also given the opportunity to meet and listen to a gentleman who experienced the dictatorship of the 70’s. The story: a regime at the time sought to eradicate individuals and groups of people who opposed them…. Having some free time in the afternoon, we went for a walk along the waterfront district of Puerto Madero on the De La Plata river. That evening we were invited to a home-hosted dinner with two sisters (of five) who lived in an apartment in Buenos Aires. They provided a salad with a sort of shepherd’s pie (mashed potatoes and ground beef) for the main dish. Conversation was interesting as questions were asked and cultural perspectives were shared.
