Visit famous cemetery in Recoleta District - Explore Parana Delta - Head home

Today was officially the last day of our tour. In the mid-morning, we visited the Recoleta District of Buenos Aires. We visited the Recoleta Cemetery where Argentina’s legendary former First Lady, Eva Peron, is interred. The cemetery is quite striking with rows and small boulevards of 6,400 ornate, grandiose mausoleums. Although only 33 when she died of cancer, Eva Peron had quite a life. From film actress to First Lady of Argentina, it is a story for all time.

Then it was off to the Parana Delta to take an hour boat ride to tour where the Parana River empties into the Rio de la Plata on its way to the Atlantic. As quoted in the OAT handbook, “This exotic landscape is just a half hour from the city but seems a million miles away. Traditional houses on stilts are surrounded by lush subtropical vegetation and built on islands that are separated by a twisting maze of waterways.” Indeed, it was definitely worth the visit.

We returned to the hotel mid-afternoon to gather our luggage and head to the Buenos Aires International Airport. We said our goodbyes to our fellow travelers who would be continuing their adventure to Iguassu Falls. Having some time at the airport, we had pizza and salad with some beer and wine from Argentina. Our overnight flight to New York left at 10:25pm, a flight time of 10 hours. Good planning by Peggy to reserve some economy plus seats for more room to maneuver. After a 4-hour layover in New York, however, we had to settle for close quarters in economy class for the 5-hour flight to San Francisco.

We spent the night in San Francisco, rented a car the next morning and headed home to Los Osos. Whew! Quite the trip. And to all of our tour companions, it was nice to meet you and share the experience. Take care… Vic and Peggy
