A veteran of the Malvinas (Falkland) Islands war in 1982. He shared with us his own participation and experiences during the 74-day, undeclared war fought between Argentina and Great Britain over control of the Falkland Islands. Great Britain had claimed the islands as territory in 1841. Argentina asserted (and maintains) that the islands are Argentine territory, and thus characterised its military action as the reclamation of its own territory. When Argentine forces surrendered, 649 Argentine military personnel and 255 British military personnel died during the hostilities. <<<
