Fly to Ushuaia, Argentina

Another early morning and a 3 1/2 hour flight (#6) to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. Ah, but Peggy and I had a disconcerting experience at the hotel. We had breakfast with our fellow travelers and then left the group briefly to go back to the room. When we returned to the lobby, everyone was gone.

Apparently, we had not been accounted for when everyone else had boarded the bus for the airport. Not having international use of our cell phones, we went to the front desk and asked if they could call Luis to let him know that we were not on the bus. The did come up with a phone number and contacted Luis… who told the hotel clerk to get us a taxi to the airport. A taxi was hailed and Peggy and I were taken to the airport. We had the driver stop when we saw the last of our tour group going through a door. Peggy took off in pursuit; I waited with the concerned taxi driver who wanted to be paid. Ten minutes later, Luis burst through the door, paid the taxi driver, and wehustled into the terminal to catch up with the rest of the tour group in line to get their plane tickets. Luis was very apologetic about forgetting ‘count’ to make sure everyone had gotten on the bus at the hotel. Anyway…

We arrived in Ushuaia, checked into our hotel and went for a walk along the waterfront, birds, a wrecked ship, and amazing snow-covered, mountain landscapes all around. Later we went to another home-hosted dinner at a beautiful, renovated home on a hillside overlooking Ushuaia.
