~BunceMan's TranzAmerican Bike Ride~
Log Entry #32: July 9, 2005
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 27: Fort Wayne, Indiana, Tiffin, Ohio. It has been my intention on this ride to lean my bike against certain signs and take a picture, a sort of visual reference of my progress across the United States. Haven't taken a picture of a mountain pass sign in a while, but state line signs will always be there until I cross into New Jersey. Let's go back to "do not" State Highway 10 coming into Indiana for a moment.
There was no sign. I looked back the way I'd come and there was a simple sign that said, "Illinois State Line", but no "Welcome to Indiana" sign. Peggy suggested that a truck probably ran over it. Anyway, as I was leaving Indiana, there was the familiar state-welcoming sign of Ohio. I leaned my two-wheeler and took the customary picture. I looked west and, yes, there it was.. a simple sign that said...
Ohio. There are signs in all states that let you know you are entering a city, town, or village. All these signs have the name of the city. Underneath it will say, city limits, township, or just have a population number. The first city I encountered in Ohio on State Highway 613 was Payne, and underneath it said "coporation limit".
613. A mostly straight road with few hills. More corn fields, but I have begun to see more wheat fields.. and have been holding my breath as I pass giant combines cuttting and separating the grain from the straw and spewing out big clouds of wheat dust.
Another day closer to the Atlantic...
Day 27 mileage: 124 miles | Innovative bicycle | Other things about Ohio | Ooo, and a beautiful Peggy Pic
