July 3: On the sand and more birds

Proceeding down Highway 101 into Oregon, we had spent the night at Ft. Stevens State Park... that was originally a military reservation that guarded the mouth of the Columbia River from the Civil War through World War II, and was decommisioned shortly after. In the morning before heading south, we were treated to another bald eagle sighting. Then it was on to watching a heron having lunch after we had lunch... and not just a couple of common murres, but thousands of them...
